Spotlight Background

Fall 2010 - Louis Bisignano

Sophomore - Florida

I do not believe that it is possible to describe in words my dedication to what I believe in and what I would like to accomplish in my life. I believe strongly in the core values that embody a military life style. Integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all we do. Every day I bind myself to these values. I can only hope that I am worthy enough to serve my community and our beautiful nation. In life I had always believed that hard work, preparation, and a strong will could overcome any challenge that I faced. However, the costs of attending college are very high. I am not as privileged as some. So any type of assistance for me to achieve my goals of one day serving our community and nation would be much appreciated. My personal career goals are to become a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force. I have answered the call within me to serve what I love and cherish, my homeland, America. I chose this path because the need to serve my fellow man is strong. I believe that everyone should be just as ready and willing to give as they are to take. These beliefs are embedded in my career choice. I would gladly give my life for my country. That statement alone should exemplify the passion I have to serve my people. Eventually I would like to become a pilot in the United States Air Force. It is a very dangerous career choice. There is no denying that. Although, the benefits far outweigh the risks. I would have the opportunity to save many Americans both on the battlefield and at home. I wish to do nothing more than to be able to give back to a nation that has been so giving towards me. No one in my family has graduated college because of their limitations. A nation that can give me the chance to attain goals of the highest order is a nation that is worth giving back to. There are no selfish or reckless reasons to my future career. A scholarship would give me the opportunity to give back to this nation. A chance to devote myself to a nation and better our home would be a great honor. General Ulysses S. Grant once said "I have never advocated war except as a means of peace". This is another career goal of mine. I do not only want to serve my nation, but humanity as a whole. I believe in peace and caring. Attaining my goals would give me the opportunity to help other people with their struggles. This is the best way to word how I feel about my career choice. To one day be part of something bigger than myself. To be able to serve and protect my nation. To give back to those who have given to me. To shield the weak and defenseless with unrelenting resolve. All I would need is the chance.
